UKMT – Maths Challenge Regional Final

UKMT – Maths Challenge Regional Final

On Monday 12th March, a synergy of two year 8 and two year 9 Framwellgate students prepared for battle of the thirty or so armies in the UKMT Team Maths Challenge Regional Final at Durham Johnston School.  After a truly inspirational musical journey (Eye of the Tiger on loop) they arrived before any other team and lay in wait ready to intimidate the competition on entry with their mathematical prowess, whilst trying desperately not to become distracted by the chocolatey temptations that had been left as a sugar rush inducing trap in the corner.

The atmosphere was tens and elevens as the students devoured a trio of pulsating rounds of sums; the heavenly ‘group round’, the not that angry actually ‘Crossnumber’ and the mythical bus-like ‘Shuttle’, consistently achieving high scores before the apex of the battle commenced – the legendary ‘Relay’.  Back and forward, back and forward the team powered, multiplied and subtracted through the quest, passing the baton with huge grins on their faces as they satiated themselves upon the carcasses of the worksheets in their wake…

They finished forthwith with a fourth placed finish for the four of them, but enemies beware they are already plotting graphs for their return!
